John & Kerri live in a beautiful contemporary penthouse downtown with bamboo floors, cable stair railings & amazing views. Their family room was already furnished with a sectional that wasn't really their style {and it was getting tired & worn}. When they called on me for help to spiffy up their space, we decided to start from scratch . . .
. . . With the exception of this enormous painting which came with their home. It served as a great inspiration for the color pallet of the room.
When it comes to home decor, during any given time frame certain colors are easy to find & some are difficult. Right now primary colors are almost impossible. That's OK - we pressed on! We lucked out & found this rug online at CB 2. It is even prettier in person.
Since we were going for a sleeker look & the rug already had a pattern, I wanted solid colored pillows. Again - hard to find! These pillows & the throw are from World Market. I didn't want any fabrics with a sheen, so this velvet type fabric fit the bill.
Isn't this concrete top table fantastic? It is from a local store that was going out of business. I found the white "Miami" vases at Z Gallerie. And I just love the blue "Aquatic Bowl" from Crate & Barrel.
Contemporary decor can be challenging. It is more sparce & the lines are cleaner, so sometimes it can read as cold. I love the way the textiles & color warmed up this stark white sofa.
