I love to sew & tape measures just make me happy. They seem nostalgic - maybe because I can still see my sweet mother {who was a much better seamstress than I} with one around her neck - sewing her heart out.

Somewhere on Pinterest, I discovered a tape measure bracelet. The photo I saw didn't have any instructions, but I decided to try to figure out how to make them. They turned out great!

Supplies you'll need (and where to get them):
- Measuring tapes
- 4 mm jump rings
- Toggle clasps
- Ribbon pinch clasps
- E6000 Adhesive
- Bendnose pliers
- Jump ring opening/closing ring-type tool
These tools are useful in opening the jump rings . . .
The ring-type tool in the photo above is really helpful - it goes on your finger.
STEP 1: Determine how long your bracelet needs to be to fit the wrist, then cut the tape measure. Make sure to include the length of the clasps. For my chunky wrist, I need somewhere in the neighborhood of 6" of measuring tape. Of course, it also depends on how loose or tight you want the bracelet to be.
STEP 2: Apply a small amount of glue on the tip of the tape measure.
STEP 3: Attach the pinch clasp - using a wrench to squeeze it closed onto the tape measure. {Wipe off any glue that leaks out & allow to dry}.
TIP: The pinch clasps will need to be the same width as the tape measure you are using.
STEP 4: Using the tools in the photo above, attach the toggle clasps {or whatever closure you choose} to the pinch clasps with two jump rings.

Does the Ribbon Clasp have to be the same size as the measuring tape or is it ok if the clasp is a little bigger? I bought the stuff today without checking the size and the measuring tape is a little smaller than those clasps...
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I think the ribbon clasp should be either the same size or smaller than the measuring tape. I made the same mistake the first time I bought supplies! Hobby lobby has packages with various sizes of ribbon clasps. If the clasp is too small, I cut the measuring tape at angles to make it fit {kind-of in a "V" pattern}. Hope this helps. What size ribbon clasps did you use?
