Well, it's official - Honey & I are getting old! But the nice part is that we are growing old together.
{So that makes it not quite so bad!}
I remember when we hit our 22nd wedding anniversary & I realized that I had spent more of my life with my husband than without him. This month marks our 30th year together. {Cue marching band & confetti here!} I know that this is special & I know I am lucky blessed. I also don't take any credit for it. I have a husband who has been very good to me. Sometimes we've been poor & sometimes we've had a little more. We've had trials. It's not all been easy, but it has been sweet & oh so worth it.
The advice I've given my sons about marriage {other than DO NOT get married in December} is that love is really important, but commitment is even more valuable in a lasting relationship.
As Jack Benny put it, "I have been married to my wife for 47 years & not once have we had an argument serious enough to consider divorce; murder, yes, but divorce, never."
On our anniversary, we go downtown Salt Lake City - stay somewhere and pretend we're on our honeymoon again {another secret to a happy marriage}. This year we did it on "the cheap" by getting a package deal at The Peery Hotel. This is a quaint & quirky historic hotel that made us feel like we were in Europe again {for reasons like: the elevator was broken & our room was on the third floor!} It is clean, but has that "old musty" smell. It's close to everything, which is good because it's pretty much no frills - no hot cocoa or awesome breakfast like when we stayed at The Grand America! But we had a good breakfast at the little cafe around the corner. Ask for an extra bar of soap because The Perry only gives you one - which we carted from the shower to the sink & back to the shower. It is a beautiful building with amazing period antiques. We had a great time - not "Grand America great", but great. *Wink*
Aww that is so amazing!
