Glass Tile Charm Tutorial

My friends & I just made about 150 glass tile pendant charms. 

They are very easy & inexpensive to make! Here's how . . . 

We ordered the 1 inch x 1 inch {or 25mmx25mm} "glass tiles" {I think they might actually be resin instead of glass} & the "bails" in bulk {see the end of the tutorial for sources} & we were able to make the charms for less than 50 cents each.

Step 1: Choose a picture for your charm. Print on card stock & cut slightly smaller than your tile. 

Step 2: Apply a thin coat of  Mod Podge on the back of the glass tile with a foam brush. Quickly place picture over the thin coat right side down. Smooth out with your finger. Let dry. 

Step 3: If desired, add another square of paper with a message on the back of the charm {or you can hand write the message}. This is adhered with another thin layer of Mod Podge. Let dry.

Step 4: Even if you skip step 3, apply another thin layer of Mod Podge.

Step 5: Adhere the bail {silver thing that holds the charm on a chain} to the back of the tile with a very small amount of E6000 glue. We applied it with a wooden skewer. This glue dries quickly, so just work with a little at a time. Allow to dry. 

Step 6: {Step 6 can be skipped, but it looks really nice if you want to include it.} Apply a thin coat of polyurethane to the back of the charms.  The brand I like is in the photo above - it says "Pour On High Gloss Finish". This product is expensive, but it can be used for lots of projects & a little goes a long way.

By the way, these charms were a gift to our church girls to remember the experience of hiking 5 miles to the temple. {We put the charms on 28" thin ribbon.}
