Making a Dish Towel Cake

I just love new dishtowels, don't you? It's so fun to toss the old, stained ones in the rag basket & use something fresh & new. So, when my dear friend moved recently - I made her a "Dish Towel Cake" as a housewarming gift to take with her to her new home.

To make it, you'll need:

  •  9 or 10 dishtowels. {I found this set at Costco}
  • some utensils {these are from Shopko}
  • ribbon
  • cardboard circles {I used cake boards}
With experimentation, you may find a better way to do this, but here's  my method. Put a cake board on the bottom. Use a sour cream container or something to put in the center {unless you want to fill it all with towels - I didn't have enough}. Roll up six of the dish towels very loosely & place them around the edge of the circle.
Tie with ribbon to help secure. Place another cake board on top of bottom layer. {Different sizes are available to buy, but I bought all the same size & cut the next layer to the size I needed.} Loosely roll up the three remaining towels on top. If you need the towels to take up more room, a toilet paper tube can be added in the center. Tie with ribbon again. Add utensils.
