How to Display Marathon Medals

One of my design clients is very physically fit. Since she & her husband have participated in many marathons, they had quite a collection of medals hanging on the door knobs of their home office.

I knew that we could find a better way to preserve & display her beautiful marathon medals. We had them custom framed & now they make a colorful addition to her office decor.
We were able to fit about 60 medals in these three frames. If it's not in your budget to order custom frames, a similar effect could be achieved by using shadow boxes which can be found at Pottery Barn. {I've also seen them at TJ Maxx lately.}

UPDATE: Since this post gets a lot of views, I decided to come up with a DIY way to do this project. CLICK HERE for another post with more!

  5. Did you have to cut the ribbons to get them to fit in the frames?

    1. Hello Courtney, Thank you for your question. You can just fold the ribbons over the back of the velvet mat to achieve this look - you don't have to cut them.

    2. Thank you Michelle! Do you happen to know the dimensions of the frames you had custom made?

    3. Yes, we made them about 14" x 45" each. My client had plenty of room for them, so we made them long to fit as many ribbons as possible. We still couldn't fit them all!
