Painting a Toy Car

Please note: This post was inspired by Britnie at CADgirl design.
Stop by & pay her a visit!

One of my favorite things is to upcycle something that was going to be thrown out & make it useful again. When I saw this little toy car in my neighbor's garbage, I saw gold! It was a perfect find for my grandbabies. But I wanted to "girly-fy" it.

Did you know that some spray paints can now be used on plastic?!
{Cue angels singing here.}

After disassembling the parts a bit & covering the parts we didn't want painted, the car was sprayed with a primer - then spray paint.

Once the car was painted, it was time to add some girly bling. The headlights & taillights are cardboard covered with sparkly fabric. Gems & other sissy stuff are glued here & there.

We love it!

UPDATE: "Honey" left this car out in the snow a lot of the winter & the paint is chipping off. So if you try this type of project, just be aware that the paint may not withstand the elements. :-(

  3. OH MY SWEET GOODNESS.
    Fabulous.
    This just opens up a whole world of greatness... I see clunky plastic stuff all the time at the curb. Ummmm.... time to scoop it up and customize!
    Thanks a million, friend! You always have the best ideas. xoxo jules
